ARENE
The Rectors' Conference of Finnish Universities of Applied Sciences is an organisation that represents all the rectors of the Finnish Universities of Applied Sciences. Arene is the abbreviation of the Finnish name and is commonly used referring to the Rectors' Conference. The main goal of Arene is to strengthen the dual system and the professional higher education in Finland. With the support of it's members Arene wants to make Finland the leading country in developing the dual system in the European higher education area. Arene is an important expert and influencer on professional higher education politics and the main that looks after the interests of the universities of applied sciences. |

The priorities for Arene in 2013 are:
- To influence in the objectives in accordance with the preparation and implementation of UAS reform through UAS act, finance law, ordinances and licensing process.
- To influence in realization of the cuts decided on UAS by the goverment platform so that the cuts as little as possible jeopardize the system performance. Contributing actively for finding new opporunities for UAS activities to compensate the cuts in funding.
- To influence in financial reform so that the funding model serves the whole UAS system and objectives that are set for it. Key objective is transition to 100% State funding as soon as possible.
- To influence in the tructural development of higher education so that the equal higher education services are ensured in the whole country.
- To achieve permanent procedure to a VAT treatment so that Universities of Applied Sciences are equal with other Universities.
- To develop and expand the entire higher education field in co-operation with the Universities Finland UNIFI.
- To actively participate to the operation of UASNET- network.
- To influence in the development of education exportation and facilitating decisions on this.
- To participate in the development of the productivity indicators for Universities of Applied Sciences.
- To increase acknowledge of research, development and innovation activities of Universities of Applied Sciences and actively affect on the implementation of the definitions of policy in practice by the Research and Innovation Council.
- To affect on the definitions of policy by the European structural funds (FP8 program).
- Intensive co-operation with the student societies.
- Intensive co-operation with the employers organizations, the working life organizations and with the other stakeholders.
